17 Nov NASCAR EURO WHELEN: P1 for PK Carsport & Heinz Hasselt
Last weekend the PK Carsport team and Heinz Performance Hasselt went to the Automotodrom Grobnik in Croatia.
The NWES weekend in Croatia has become one that can be written under the name of PK Carsport (By Heinz Hasselt) from Hasselt. The fifth race in the championship was won by Stienes Longin (PK Carsport Team). With this he has his first victory of the European Nascar season in his pocket. Qualified in second place, he passed pole sitter Giorgio Maggi in the start. In his # 11 Chevrolet Camaro, he was in the lead almost from start to finish.
During the sixth race, two-time champion Alon Day did the same (also from the PK Carsport Team). The Israeli has his 22nd victory in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, equaling Ander Vilarino’s record.
Unfortunately, bad luck arose for Stienes in that second race. He started third and was well on his way to a podium place. Until he was pushed off the track at the end of the straight by former teammate Nicolo Rocca. The Italian was penalized for this, but Longin’s podium opportunities were gone. In the end he was classified eighth. Fortunately, this does not endanger the championship.
The American Julia Landauer, teammate of Stienes, finished in seventh place at the race on Saturday. On Sunday she did one place better by finishing sixth.
