11 Jan Nascar Whelen Euro Series: first place for Anthony Kumpen at Brands Hatch.
Anthony Kumpen has made it eight wins in the Nascar series with victory at the Indy circuit Brands Hatch on Saturday 11 June from pole position. He also achieved the fastest lap time.
The ever popular American Speedfest started out well for the PK Carsport team, with both Anthony Kumpen (Elite 1) and Guillaume Dumarey (Elite 2) recording the fastest time in the qualifying round. It was the perfect start for Kumpen for the first race on Saturday.
“The temperature of the tarmac was fairly high, so we had to play around a little with the tyre pressure,” explains Anthony. “That made the start to the competition a little trickier, but I managed to keep the rest of the field behind me and pull away. That was until the race was brought to a stop shortly before the end. Luckily, I managed to build up a gap after the green light and drove to victory.”
It looked like a ninth for Anthony on Sunday, and things looked to be going well. “I took the lead again from pole,” recounts Kumpen. “But on the third lap, Alon Day knocked me off the track and I lost a few places. Day received a ten place penalty on the grid for the next race, but that won’t benefit me unfortunately, and I just have to be satisfied with seventh, when it could have been two wins. I’ve still had wins in the championship, so everything is still possible.”
Anthony is still in the running for the European title, the final takes place in Zolder in October.
